Mike Jenkins, 74, died Friday, April 29, 2011, at his home in Okeechobee, Fla.
Mike was born May 28, 1936, in Ridgeway. During World War II his family moved to Newburg, where Mike attended grade school. He graduated from West Bend High School in 1954.
Mike attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, and it was there that he met his wife, Patricia Loy. They were married in August 1958.
The couple lived in the Green Bay area for many years. While there, Mike was an executive for the Boy Scouts of America. Later, he owned and operated Jenkins Realty.
When he retired, Mike and Pat moved to Okeechobee, Fla. In recent years, they spent summers in Kewaunee. Throughout his life, Mike was an avid hunter and fisherman. During his summers in Kewaunee he enjoyed fishing in Lake Michigan every day.
Mike was an excellent cook, and many neighbors, friends and family members will remember his hospitality and generosity as he hosted fish boils and holiday meals.
Mike was a member of the United Methodist Church of Okeechobee in Florida. He was also a very active participant in the community at "The Big O" mobile home park where he lived.
More than anything else, Mike loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
He is survived by Pat, his loving wife of 53 years; sons, Bill (Shonna) Jenkins of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and Jon (Naomi) Jenkins of Green Bay; daughter Jeri Lyn Kirchner of Shawano; seven grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Haas of West Bend and Donna Liebenstein of Lac du Flambeau; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister Sally, and three brothers-in-law.
Mike was a kind-hearted man who got through life’s ups and downs with faith and humor. He touched many lives, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service was held at the United Methodist Church in Okeechobee, Fla., on May 5. Friends and family will gather for a celebration of Mike’s life at Cambria Suites hotel in Green Bay on May 28.
