Anita A. Derge, 83

Anita A. Derge (nee Westphal), 83, passed away at the Kathy Hospice on Sunday, May 15, 2011.

Anita was born on Sept. 5, 1927, in Hartford to Gustav and Hedwig (nee Pusch) Westphal. Her parents purchased the family farm in Richfield when Anita was 7 years old. She graduated as valedictorian of her class at Slinger High School, class of 1945.

She married Adolph R. Derge on Aug. 27, 1947, at Peace Lutheran Church in Hartford. Anita partnered with Adolph in working their dairy farm in rural Hartford until they retired and moved to West Bend in 1982. She was an expert crafter of crocheted lace and shared her creations with many friends and family. She maintained a large garden and made an art of canning and preserving its produce. After retiring, Adolph and she enjoyed traveling and playing cards with friends. Anita will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved her.

Anita is survived by her husband, Adolph R. Derge; and daughter, Annette (Dale) Schuh. She is further survived by her grandsons, Owen (Candace Jensen) Schuh of San Francisco and Neil (Ivory Carlson) Schuh of Los Angeles; and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.

Anita is preceded in death by her parents, Gustav and Hedwig Westphal; and brother, Walter Westphal Sr.

A funeral service for Anita will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, at Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church, 777 S. Indiana Ave., West Bend, with the Rev. Richard Lauersdorf presiding. Visitation will be at the church only on Thursday, May 19, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. Interment will follow at Washington County Memorial Park.
