Richard J. Rose, 85
Richard J. Rose passed away peacefully at the Kathy Hospice on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011 at the age of 85 years.
Richard was born in Milwaukee on March 31, 1926 to Erwin and Marie (nee Neuy) Rose. Richard served as a dedicated member of the United States Army. He then went on to marry Bernice Schemenauer on Aug. 27, 1949 in the town of Nabob.
Richard retired from Wisconsin Electric as a troubleshooter after 39 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the Fred A. Schaefer VFW Post 1393 in West Bend for 54 years and the Fohl-Martin American Legion Post 483 in Allenton. Richard was also a lifetime member of the West Bend Moose Lodge 1398 where he received the Pilgrim Degree, the highest honor in the Moose organization. He also served two terms as governor of the Moose Lodge 1398 where he actively served up until a few years ago.
Richard enjoyed playing horseshoes which he played up until last year along with darts, bowling, softball, hardball, hunting, fishing and a good game of bingo. Richard was an avid Wisconsin sports fan and he will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved him.
Richard is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bernice; children Gary (Alice) Rose, David (Susan) Rose, Judy (Terry) Mueller, and Debbie (Steve) Bannenberg; and grandchildren Nicole LaVanway, Jamie Rose, Jason Rose, Rebecca (Greg) Fleischman, Mat-thew and Michael Rose, Melissa (Tim) Dobbs, Joshua Millard, Eric Mueller, and Dustin, Denise, and Deane Bannenberg. He is further survived by his great-grandchildren Brianna, Toni, Alexandria, Jacob, Devon, Caleb, Hailey, Dalton, Taylor, Dylan, Logan, Jordan, Emma, and Mason; siblings Jack (Mary Ann), Arthur (Jane), Pat Jossart, Kenneth, and Roger; brother-in-law Donald Biertzer; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Erwin and Marie Rose; Gary and Alice’s son, Dean Rose; sisters Virginia Biertzer and Shirley Biertzer, and brothers Robert and Donald Rose.
A funeral service for Richard will be at 7 p.m.Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011 at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel, 1420 W. Paradise Drive, West Bend, with Deacon Ron Schneider presiding. Visitation will be from 4-6:45 p.m. at the FUNERAL HOME ONLY on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011. Private interment will take place at Washington County Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to the staff at the Kathy Hospice for their care and compassion for Richard during his stay.
