Melvin ‘Mel’ K. Rinka, 70


Melvin “Mel” K. Rinka passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011 at the age of 70.

Melvin was born on Aug. 2, 1941 to Henry and Sophie (nee Raasch) Rinka.

He proudly served in the United States Army during the Cold War. He retired after 28 years as a Master Painter of the West Allis West Milwaukee School District. He married Jean Voelker in West Allis on Sept. 14, 1963.

Melvin is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jean; children Allan (Sandi), David (Lori), and Carolyn Woda; and grandchildren Kelci, Ashley, Kaylyn, Madelyn, and Jacob. He is further survived by his brother Donald Rinka, sisters-in-law Jean Rinka, June Rinka, and Ginny Rinka, and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. Melvin is preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers Norman Rinka, Eldon Rinka, and Kenneth Rinka.|

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Melvin will be at 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, 2011 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 200 E. Washington St. in Slinger with Fr. Richard Stoffel presiding. Gathering will be from 4 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. at the church ONLY on Monday, Sept. 26, 2011. Private entombment of ashes will take place at New St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are appreciated to the St. Peter’s Catholic Church Endowment Fund and Cancer Care Inc. (www.cancercare.org).
