John Arthur Thompson, 74

John Arthur Thompson, 74, of Hilton Head, S.C., and Friendship,  
Maine, and formerly of Mequon, passed away peacefully on Sept. 21,  
2011, after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

John was born Aug. 28, 1937, to Don and Ethel Thompson in Des Moines,  
Iowa, and graduated from Iowa State University in 1960 with a  
bachelor of science degree in ceramic engineering. John worked for  
over 30 years for Cutler-Hammer and Eaton Corp. in Milwaukee and  
Pittsburgh. A kind, gentle and patient man, he loved golfing and was  
a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan.

John is dearly missed by his wife, Mary A. Thompson (nee Flood); his  
children Deborah (Daniel) Knuth, Charles (Sarah) and John E.  
Thompson; his grandchildren, Conner, Danny and Julia Knuth, Mia,  
Timothy and Mason Thompson; and his brother, Dennis (Anita) Thompson.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Donna Scott.
Funeral services will be held at United Methodist Church, 24 Main  
Street, Friendship, Maine, on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at 1 p.m. with  
interment at the Roadside Cemetery in Friendship at 2 p.m.
