Claude S. Swoverland, 90

Claude S. Swoverland, 90, of Grafton, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at Froedtert Memorial Hospital following an auto accident.

Claude was born on Feb. 16, 1921, in Tony one of 11 children born to Jonas and Bertha (Kuhlman) Swoverland. A decorated veteran, he served his country in World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. On Oct. 1, 1949, he was married to Lillian Gengler.

Claude worked at Square D and drove a school bus for the Grafton Schools. After retirement, he served the community as a crossing guard for Thorson Elementary School in Cedarburg for many years. For the last 15 years of his life, Claude and Lila spent the winter months in Arizona, where he enjoyed shooting pool, playing dart ball, riding his bike, driving his golf cart and spending time in the company of his many friends at Desert Shadows Retirement Community.

Claude was a very kind and gentle man, with a wonderful sense of humor, who lived his life to the fullest.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lillian; children, Daniel, Claude, Colleen (Dick) Bartell and Michael (Sandy); grandchildren, Heather, Ben, Chris, Adam, Aaron, Jeremy and Danny; sister, Stella; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.

Special thanks to the nurses, especially Jill and Jackie, in the Froedert SICU, for their wonderful care and compassion during his stay. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Open Door Bible Church, the Veterans Administration or Froedtert Memorial Hospital, Milwaukee.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
