Natalie H. Bauer, 84
Natalie H. Bauer (nee Hollenbeck), 84, of West Bend passed away Thursday, July 26, 2012, in West Bend.
Natalie was born Dec. 13, 1927, in New Holstein to the late Kingsley and Lucille (Lauson) Hollenbeck. She attended New Holstein Public Schools and Lakeland College, graduating in 1950 with a B.A. in education. While at Lakeland College she met Roger Bauer of Faribault Minn., and on Aug. 31, 1949 she and Roger were married at St. John’s United Church of Christ church in New Holstein. After graduation, Natalie taught school in Wausau, Stevens Point and Madison. While in Madison she attended graduate school at the University of Wisconsin.
A lifelong music lover, Natalie was a masterful piano player and an excellent singer, participating in church choirs and semi-professional music groups wherever she and Roger traveled. She also was a piano teacher for many years, passing along her craft to many, many students. She put many smiles on the faces of those who listened to her play. Over the years she was involved with the Barton Historical Society, the Wausau Pro Musica choral group, and the Moraine Chorus of West Bend. She was also a Partner in Reading at the Barton Elementary School. In addition, Natalie was a member for many years of the Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum.
She is survived by two brothers, Robert Hollenbeck of Sheboygan Falls and Gerald (Geraldine) Hollenbeck of New Holstein, and a number of in-laws: Patricia Hollenbeck, Lois Bauer, Margaret Bauer, Merlin Bauer, and Grace and Don Covert. Natalie is also survived by her two children, Jennifer Hytry of West Bend, Paul (Nancy) Bauer of Oak Park, Ill., three grandchildren, Emily Hytry of Rochester, N.Y., Aimee (Joel) Knosher of Chicago, and Kimberly Bauer of Fort Collins, Colo. There is also one surviving great-grandchild.
Natalie was preceded in death by her parents, Kingsley and Lucille, a brother, Warren “Skip” Hollenbeck of Waupaca, and her husband, Roger.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at the Phillip Funeral Home in West Bend (1420 Paradise Drive) at 1 p.m., preceded by open visitation at the funeral home from noon-1 p.m. that same day. Natalie will be interred at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Cemetery in Union Grove, Wisconsin alongside her beloved Roger. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Peace UCC Music Fund or the West Bend Memorial Library.
