Laura R. Ludwig, 91
Laura
R. Ludwig (nee Schmidt), 91, entered into eternal peace
on Monday, Aug. 13, 2012. She was born on May 1, 1921,
and baptized on May 13, 1928, in Dowagiac, Mich.
She graduated from Benton Harbor High School and was
employed by Western Union, Whirlpool Corporation, and
Berrien County in Michigan. She married Leonard Ludwig
on Oct. 1, 1944. Laura worked as a secretary for Berrien
County until retirement. In 2002, after suffering a
stroke, she and Leonard moved to Wisconsin to live with
her daughter Sandy.
She enjoyed sewing, gardening and reading on her Kindle.
Before joining St. John’s Lutheran in Newburg, Laura was
an active member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in
Benton Harbor, Mich. where she belonged to their Banner
Committee and Quilting Group. She was also a member of
the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia (AHSGR).
Although Laura lived in Wisconsin, her heart remained in
Michigan, never forgetting her family and friends who
live there.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Sandra (Steven)
Enter of West Bend; and brothers Erich of Lakewood,
Ohio, and Wilfred of Findlay, Ohio. She is further
survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Wilhelm and
Augusta (nee Schmidt); husband, Leonard; son, Leonard
Jr. “Butch”; and niece, Elaine Schmidt-Bouhall.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 15,
2012, at 7 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church (623
Congress St., Newburg, WI 53060) with the Rev. Jon
Baumann presiding. The visitation will be at the church
from 5 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m. Private
interment will take place at North Shore Memorial Garden
in Coloma, Mich.
Memorials may be made to Michigan Lutheran High School,
St. Joseph, Mich., or St. John’s Lutheran School
Handbell Choir, Newburg.
