Gilbert J. Mayer, 58


Gilbert J. Mayer, 58, passed away on Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, at The Kathy Hospice of West Bend. He was born on Feb. 18, 1954, to Gilbert and Bernice (nee Miller) and spent his youth playing softball with his brothers.

He graduated from West Bend East High School, Class of ’72, then began his career as a welder, eventually owning and operating G. Mayer Welding in Newburg. He enjoyed billiards, photography and spending time outdoors. He worked creatively with metals and enjoyed mechanical projects. He had a great sense of humor and was a good-natured prankster.

Gilbert is survived by his sons, Dan (Karla) and Dustin; mother, Bernice; siblings, Jerry (special friend, Mary Ellen Dodge), Sharon (Conrad) Fischer, Kathy (Rich) Pierce, Judy Austin, Dan (Carol), Tom (Connie) and Mary (Bill) Chesak; and best friend, his cocker spaniel, Rosie.
He is preceded in death by his father, Gilbert, and sister-in-law, Annie Mayer.

The memorial service will be held on Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at 7 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel (1420 W. Paradise Drive, West Bend, WI 53095). The visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m.
