Charles Thomas Bradburn, 93
Charles Thomas Bradburn of Cedarburg entered into eternal life with
our Lord on Aug. 11, 2012, at age 93.
Charlie was born to Charles Roth Bradburn and
Elizabeth Becker Bradburn in Cedarburg on Feb. 10, 1919.
After graduating from Cedarburg High School, he attended
Purdue University. In 1941 he graduated from Purdue with
a degree in electrical engineering and was hired by
Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Co.
During his early years at Allis-Chalmers, he attended
Columbia University where he participated in the
developmental research for the Manhattan Project. Later
he retired with 40 years of employment.
Charlie married Patricia Gehl on Nov. 22, 1945. They
met on a blind date arranged by their sisters. Charlie
and Pat raised their five children here where the family
enjoyed Cedarburg’s historic traditions and cultural
events.
Continuing a family tradition of service to the
Cedarburg Light & Water Utility, Charlie succeeded his
father as a commissioner to the municipal utility in
August 1951. Recently Charlie retired from the Cedarburg
Light & Water Utility where he served as president and
vice- president for many years. With his 60 years of
continuous service, he was one of the longest- serving
municipal utility commissioners in the history of our
country. His leadership and many contributions to public
power have been recognized by American Public Power
Association, Wisconsin Public Power Inc., and Municipal
Electrical Utilities of Wisconsin.
He was a lifelong member of Saint Francis Borgia
Church. His contributions to the parish included
membership on the parish council and Saint Vincent
DePaul Society; in addition to enjoying usher duties at
the Saturday evening Mass. Since he was fond of reading
and current events, he enthusiastically directed family
discussions.
Charlie will always be remembered for his faithful
service to his church, family and community.
