The Rev. Lloyd Wenzel, 93

The Rev. Lloyd Waldon Wenzel, 93, of West Bend, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 14, at Cedar Lake Health Center.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 19, at 3 p.m. at Good Shepherd Ev. Lutheran Church (777 S. Indiana Ave.) with the Rev. Robert Hein and the Rev. Richard Lauersdorf officiating. Interment will take place at Grace Cemetery of Milwaukee.

Lloyd was born on Nov. 29, 1918, in Milwaukee as the son of Dr. Erwin (M.D.) and Esther Wenzel. He was baptized and later confirmed into the Kingdom of God at Sherman Park Lutheran Church of Milwaukee.

He graduated from Concordia Lutheran Preparatory School/College in Milwaukee, from Northwestern College of Watertown and from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary of Mequon.
In 1944 Lloyd was ordained and installed into the public pastoral ministry as a pastor/teacher at Grace Lutheran Church in Glendale, Ariz. There he was married to Irma Engel on March 14, 1945. He then served the following congregations: Trinity Lutheran of Winner, S.D. and St. John Lutheran in Witten, S.D.; St. John and St. Luke (Winfield) Lutheran from Renville, Minn.; St. Paulís Lutheran churches at Manchester and Marquette, Wis.; Peace Lutheran of Wilmot; and Hope Lutheran of Twin Lakes.

He retired in West Bend, where he taught Sunday school at his church, assisted with the Pioneer program and served as a chaplain for the Ladiesí Guild at Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School. He also served as a volunteer and lecturer at the Washington County Historical Society and Museum in West Bend.

Lloyd is survived by his family: three daughters: Ellen (William) Kesting of Boltonville, Carol (Gene) Lake of Wilmot, and Nadine (Raymond) Pahnke of Villa Park, Ill.; two sons: the Rev. Kenneth (Jane) Wenzel of Sun Prairie and Larry Wenzel of Norway; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one foster grandson; along with a brother, Erwin Wenzel of Milwaukee.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Irma, and one grandson, Eric Kesting.
Visitation will be at Good Shepherd church only on Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, from 1 p.m. until time of service (3 p.m.). Memorials to Good Shepherd Lutheran Sunday School Fund, Wisconsin Lutheran Institutional Ministries of Wauwatosa or Bethesda Lutheran Home of Watertown are appreciated.
