Rosemary
M. Gass, nee Strupp, 86, of West Bend died on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012 at
Kettle Moraine Gardens in Kewaskum at the age of 86 years. She was born
on Nov. 5, 1925 in the town of Addison to the late Peter and Rosalia
(nee Ruplinger) Strupp.
On June 24, 1944, she was united in marriage to John A. Gass at Sacred
Heart Church in Allenton. Following her marriage, they settled in
Allenton. John predeceased on July 7, 1988.
For a few years, she worked at the West Bend Company. She, along with
John, started John and Rosie’s Bar and Grill in Allenton. They then
opened and operated the Allenton Meat Market and Bar. In 1976, she and
her daughter Carol established C&R Catering, Inc. She was involved in
the business until her retirement.
She was a member of the Washington County Tavern League, where she
served as secretary and treasurer. As a member of Sacred Heart Church in
Allenton, she was the parish organist for 35 years.
Rosie loved to travel. She visited many places throughout the world,
including Germany, Mexico, Australia, Alaska and many places in the
United States.
On Sept. 25, 1999, she married Robert A. Johnson at St. Mathias Chapel
in Nabob.
Survivors include her husband Bob; four children, Janis (Simon, Jr.)
Dietenberger of Allenton, Carol (James) Swift of Allenton, Donna (David)
Warnecke of Eden and Christine (Gerald) Brost of Arbor Vitae; three
step-children ,Gwen Brodzeller of West Bend, William A. (Lisa) Johnson
of Madison and Jane (Larry) Millard of West Bend; six grandchildren;
four step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five
step-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Sally Strupp of West Bend;
and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one
grandson, Eric Dietenberger, one brother, Leroy Strupp, and one sister,
Marianne (Paul) Hahn.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Aug. 23 at 7 p.m.
at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Rev. Gerald Brittain presiding.
Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Allenton. The
family will greet relatives and friends during a period of visitation at
Holy Angels Catholic Church only on Thursday from 3-6:45 p.m.
