Marcella M. Vass,
98
Marcella M. Vass, nee Frings, 98, of West Bend died on Thursday, Dec. 6,
2012, at the Health Care Center of Cedar Community.
She was born on Oct. 18, 1914, in Hartford to the late William and
Matilda (nee Weber) Frings. As a young child, the family moved to
Theresa, then to Rib Lake. In 1924, the family settled in Barton.
On Aug. 17, 1933, she was united in marriage to Kenneth A. Vass at St.
Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Fredonia. Ken predeceased Oct.16, 1989.
For more than 40 years, she worked as an election clerk in Ward 7. Her
service was recognized by the city of West Bend and by former Gov.Tommy
Thompson. She also was a school census taker in the Barton School
District.
She was a member of the Christian Women’s Confraternity at St. Mary’s
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Barton Homemakers Club, and
the Washington County and Barton Historical Societies.
Survivors include six children Kenneth (Rosalie) of Batavia, Ill.,
Robert (Mary Jane) of West Bend, Ruth Wunsch of West Bend, Patricia
(William) Ward of Pennsauken, N.J., Elaine (Jim) Shutes of West Bend and
Janice (Donald) Kaehny of Mayville; 20 grandchildren Kealie (Jim) Walsh,
Ross (Jill), Kenlyn (Doug) Schuldt, Jason (Kelly), Mary Beth (Robert)
Alexander, Debra (Michael) Cahoon, Tracy (Jon) Biever, Terry (Julie)
Moll, Gary (Mary) Moll, Tom Moll, Lynnette (Howard) Kaufman, Cindy
(Randy) Radermacher, Randy Moll, Christopher Ward, Sarah Ward, Jennifer
(Jeremy) Means, Robert (Amber) Shutes, Eric Shutes, Lisa (Brian) Vorwerk,
Jeffrey (Deanne Walz) Kaehny; 33 great-grandchildren; three
great-great-grandchildren; one brother Paul (Carol) Frings of West Bend;
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Marcella was preceded in death
by one brother Walter (Marie) Frings, four sisters Marie, Florence
(Alton) Harter, Rose and Beatrice and one sister-in-law Lola (Alfred)
Homuth.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Dec. 10 at 10:30 a.m.
at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. John
Radetski presiding (please meet at church). Burial will follow in St.
Mary’s Cemetery (new). The family will greet relatives and friends
during a period of visitation at the Schmidt Funeral Home in West Bend
on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. There will be a prayer vigil at 5 p.m. Sunday.
Masses or memorials to St. Mary’s School appreciated.
Marcella’s family would like to extend a thank you to her friends at
Meadowbrook Manor and Cedar Bay West. Also to the staff at Cedar
Community, including the student nurses from Moraine Park Technical
College and to Dr. Mian for their support and care.
