Lorraine Bernard,
80
Mrs.
Lorraine “Lorrie” Bernard, of Newburg, passed away at her home while
surrounded by her family, Sunday afternoon, Dec. 9, 2012. She was 80
years old. Lorraine was born in Cook County, Ill. on July 23, 1932,
daughter of Anna Orlinski and Raymond Grieger. Lorrie went to live with
her grandmother, Frances Orlinski in Milwaukee at the age of 5, where
she lived until her later teenage years when she became part of the
family of Sam and Faythe Schuminsky in Whitefish Bay.
On Feb. 6, 1954 she was united in marriage with James Bernard at Bethel
United Church of Christ in Milwaukee. The couple settled in Milwaukee
and started their family. The family moved to Fredonia in 1963. Lorrie
worked as a machinist at Power Products in Grafton, retiring in 1981.
She and Jim then moved to Arizona, where they lived for 25 years.
Lorrie was known for her love of hummingbirds, setting out many feeders
for them. It was not unusual to see hundreds of hummingbirds in her
yard, waiting for her to come out and feed them. She was very involved
at Calvary Chapel in Prescott, especially in the Women’s Ministry. They
remained in Arizona until they moved back to Wisconsin in 2007, settling
in Newburg.
Lorrie was a regular attendee at Northbrook Church in Richfield, where
she was active in the Senior Ministry. Mrs. Bernard loved writing, and
was part of the local newsletter in Pine Lakes, Ariz. In her past, she
enjoyed bowling, and more recently spent time playing Mahjong and
watching old movies. During the warmer months, Lorrie was always outside
working in her gardens. Most of all, Lorrie enjoyed spending time with
her family, especially her great-grandchildren and grand-dogs.
She is survived by her husband of almost 59 years, Jim, and their three
daughters: Jeanie (Darrell) Pearcy of Greenwood, Ark., Debbie (Gary
Schmidt) Towler of West Bend and Shelly (Roger) Stalter of Prescott,
Ariz. She is further survived by 10 grandchildren, 16
great-grandchildren, her sister Pearl (Bob) Schaefer of Kankakee, Ill.,
and brother Raymond Grieger of Florida. She is also survived by Faythe
Schuminsky of California, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Ronnie Grieger,
son-in-law Michael Towler, Ryan Tesch, and Sam Schuminsky.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13, at
Northbrook Church, 4014 Highway 167 West in Richfield. The Rev. Lee
Heyward will officiate. She will be laid to rest the next day at Union
Cemetery in Waubeka. The family will receive visitors at the church on
Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Memorials to the family are suggested in lieu of
flowers.
The Eernisse Funeral Home in Cedarburg is assisting the family with
arrangements. Online condolences can be left at
