John
M. Willkomm, 57, of Green Bay, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday,
Dec. 15, 2012. John was born March 13, 1955 in West Bend, a son of the
late LeRoy and Joyce (Gahagan) Willkomm.
He attended the Holy Angels Catholic School in West Bend, and graduated
from West Bend East High School in 1973. While in high school, John
loved to sing and was very active in theater. He also played baseball.
Following high school he attended the University of Wisconsin-Washington
County where he played soccer and was known as “Omar.”
On April 23, 1987 he was united in marriage to the former Sandra
Schneider of Two Rivers. Sandra preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 2001.
John loved to spend time with his family and friends. He also loved to
golf and enjoyed watching all varieties of sports, but foremost he was
an avid Packer fan. John also loved his dogs, Bear and Gibbs. He was a
very proud and good uncle to three nieces and four nephews, as well as a
great friend to his neighbors and many others. He had been employed by
Green Bay Concrete and Pipe until November 2010.
John will be sadly missed by those left to cherish his memory. They
include his two sisters, Sandra (Dennis) Rondorf of West Bend and Jane
(Mike) Peterson of Shawano, and one brother, Jim Willkomm of Gresham. He
is further survived by his nieces, Gina (Jeff) Stange of Adell, Rachel
Reynolds of Cedarburg, and Melissa Willkomm of Green Bay; his nephews,
Grant Rondorf of Madison, Sam Reynolds of Milwaukee, Joe Willkomm of
Shawano, and Brent Finnel of Green Bay. John also has one great-nephew,
Race Stange of Adell.
John was preceded in death by his wife Sandra, his parents, Joyce
Willkomm on Feb. 4, 1993 and his father LeRoy “Giant” Willkomm on Dec.
14, 1999.
A gathering of family and friends to remember and celebrate the life of
John Willkomm will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012 at 6 p.m. at
Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano. James Lonick, lay
minister of worship, will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Holy
Angels Catholic Cemetery, West Bend. Relatives and friends may call at
Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service on Wednesday after 3 p.m. until the
hour of service.
In lieu of flowers and plants, the family has requested that donations
be made to the Humane Society of Brown County in the name of John M.
Willkomm;
