Duane
B. “Dewey” Gundrum, 77, of Hartford, passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2012
at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee. Duane was born Sept. 19, 1935 to
Jerome and Arsella (nee Mueller) Gundrum in St. Lawrence. He was united
in marriage to Elizabeth Pfeifer on Oct. 6, 1956 at St. Lawrence
Catholic Church. Duane was a long-time resident of Allenton.
Duane served the community in many ways. He worked for the Washington
County Highway Department. for several years before moving to a career
with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department. He retired after 25
years of service as a deputy, detective, social services investigator
and bailiff. He also held various part-time positions, including police
officer for Slinger Police Department, town of Addison supervisor, town
assessor and various other positions. As a member of Sacred Heart /
Resurrection Catholic Parish, Duane volunteered in many church functions
and activities. He was a member of the Hartford Senior Friends.
Duane loved most sports, especially the Packers, Brewers, and loved to
watch his children and grandchildren participate in sports and other
activities. He also loved polka music, gardening, fishing, cards,
casinos and woodworking. He made people smile with his goodnatured
ability to poke fun and joke.
Duane is survived by his wife Elizabeth of 56 years; his seven children
Michael (Jane) of Plymouth, Beverly Gundrum of Hartford, Linda (Kenneth)
Koepp of West Bend, Anthony of Milwaukee, Thomas (Diane) of Milwaukee,
Larry (Monica) of Hartland, and Jodi (Keith) Dobberphul of West Bend; 12
grandchildren Nicholas and Kayla Gundrum, Nolan and Collin Koepp, Megan,
Trevor, Jeremy, Matthew, and Calahan Gundrum, Darren, Nicole, and Jacob
Dobberphul; his siblings Yvonne (George) Gutermann, Father Alfredo
Gundrum, Mary (Juan) Gundrum-Espinosa, and Clare (Richard) McCain; and
his sisters-in-law Mary (Anthony) Feucht, Diane (Robert) Hechimovich,
Cecile Pfeifer, and Marion Pfeifer.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Arsella.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Duane will be held Friday, Dec. 21, 2012
at 7 p.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church, 215 Main St., Allenton, with
the Rev. Richard Stoffel, the Rev. Alfredo Gundrum, and the Rev. Richard
Hart officiating. Family will greet relatives and friends at the church
on Friday from 3 p.m. until the mass at 7 p.m.
Interment will be held at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Allenton.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Duane’s name to
Resurrection Catholic Church or Hartford Senior Friends.
