William B. Barber, 88|
William B. Barber, 88, of Shawano, formerly of West Bend, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012 at the Pine Manor Health Care Center in Shawano. He was born July 18, 1923 in West Bend to the late Glenn and Mable (nee Anderson) Barber and married Gwynda Conliff on Oct. 28, 1944 at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend.
As a young man Bill was very involved in DeMolay, from which he earned entrance into the Legion of Honor.
Bill was employed in the agricultural and construction equipment business and owned the West Bend Implement Company. He loved flying and flew his plane all over the United States. He enjoyed golfing, gardening and attending auctions where he could buy and sell.
He was the past president of the Wisconsin Equipment Dealers Association and the past president of the West Bend Area Chamber of Commerce. He was very active at Trinity Lutheran Church for many years and served on the church council.
William is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gwynda of Shawano, three children: Glenn (Judith) of Sun Prairie, Stewart (Char) of Townsend and Paul (Susan) of Green Bay, and eight grandchildren: Jennifer Barber, Jamie (Jason) Altmann, Angie (Kurt) Heilgendorf, Laurie (Dean) Flitter, Kirk (Lori) Rademaker, Keith Rademaker, Melissa (Theo) Terrell and Jeffrey Barber. He is further survived by 11 great-grandchildren: his sister Eileen Ecker of West Bend and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Mable Barber.
The family will greet relatives and friends for a period of visitation on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012 at the Schmidt Funeral Home in West Bend from noon-2 p.m. with burial following in Washington County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials to the Pine Manor Health Care Center are appreciated.
