Gordon W. Gehring, 81

Gordon W. Gehring, 81, of Hartford died due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident Feb. 19, 2012.

Gordon was born Sept. 24, 1930 in Hartford to Edwin J. and Louise Marie (nee Scholz) Gehring. He was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Stoffel on April 21, 1956 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

Gordon was a successful electrician with Jordan Electric for 39 years, 14 years as owner. He was a member of the IBEW Local 494 and had the foresight to transition a successful contracting business to two of his sons. Gordon enjoyed his vegetable gardens and his tree farms in Waupaca and Portage Counties. He was an amateur forester, logger and long-standing member of WWOA. He also enjoyed producing grapes for juice and wine.

He enjoyed spending time with family and his numerous friends. Time was spent traveling, dancing and at many card parties. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2689 as past Grand Knight and life member. He was involved with Scouting for many years and was rewarded with his seven sons achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.

Gordon was a member of St. Mary of the Hill Catholic Parish, having served on the Church Council and working on the parish antique fair. He also volunteered at the Holy Hill Arts and Craft Fair and for the Red Cross transportation service. Gordon served his country in the United States Army for two years.

Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Shirley, beloved sons Randy (Diane), Robert (Leslie), Arthur (Jackie), Kevin (Mary Lee), Keith (Mary), Mark (Karen), and Todd (Renee) Gehring, and his 27 precious grandchildren, Nick (Alicia), Sarah (Paul) Jacobsen, Matthew (fiancé Stacy Bauer), Jacob (Krysten), Peter, Michael, Allison, Christina, Kristen, Kelly, Joey, LeAnn, Emily, Abigail, Madeline, Gregory, Erika, John, Megan, Ryan, Scott, Grace, Luke, Della, Logan, Derek, and Denise Gehring, and by seven great-grandchildren.

Also survived by his sister, Rosemary Meitner, sister-in-laws Donna Gehring and Arlene Strupp, Gladys (Frank) Scharrer, and by brother-in-law James (Patricia) Stoffel. Gordon is further survived by nieces, nephews other relatives and friends, and the dear friends of St. Mary of the Hill Parish. He is preceded in death by his brother, James, and his parents, Edwin and Louise Gehring.
The Mass of Resurrection Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. at the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians Holy Hill, Hubertus with Father Fred Alexander, OCD officiating.

Visitation at the Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home, Friday March 2, 2012 from 3-7 p.m., recitation of the Rosary, followed by vigil service. Closing visitation and morning prayers to be held on March 3, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by funeral procession from Hartford to Holy Hill. Burial at St. Mary’s of the Hill parish cemetery.
