"Arnie" H. Behm, 95, of West Bend, passed away on Tuesday, Jan.
3, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in the town of Polk.
He was born Nov. 29, 1916, on the family farm in Manitowoc County to the
late Walter and Edna (nee Bremer) Behm. Arnie grew up on the family’s
farm and attended Lincoln High School in Manitowoc. On May 10, 1941, he
was united in marriage to June Jarlsberg at Rockdale Lutheran Church in
Cambridge.
He worked for Maysteel in Mayville for several years before moving to
Valders, where he owned and operated a 120-acre turkey farm. Five years
later he and June moved down to West Bend and he began working as an
engineer at Western Metal Specialty in Milwaukee until his retirement in
1982. Shortly after his retirement Arnie and June enjoyed spending their
winters in Tucson, Ariz., where they made many wonderful friends. Arnie
enjoyed yard work, gardening, flowers, and maintained a well manicured
lawn. He also enjoyed playing sheepshead and cribbage.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, June; his daughter, Sandra
(Bruce) Muckerheide of West Bend; seven grandchildren, Michelle (Mike)
Hupfer of West Bend, Michael (Lynn) Muckerheide of Naperville, Ill.,
Mitchell (Kim) Muckerheide of West Bend, Matthew Muckerheide of West Bend,
Myles (Paula) Muckerheide of Menomonie, Mich., Jason Behm of Oshkosh, and
Brett (Sherri) Behm of Hartford; 20 great-grandchildren, Laura Loos, San-dra
(friend Rich) Loos, Noelle Loos, Denny Duernberger Jr., Nicholas
Duernberger, Jamie Muckerheide, Matthew Muckerheide, Kristin Muckerheide,
Mishan (Josh) Klotz, Megan (Anthony) Doerr, Zachary Muckerheide, Joshua
Muckerheide, Isaiah Muckerheide, Marlissa Muckerheide, Ezekiel Muckerheide,
Nathan Muckerheide, Nolan (Courtney) Muckerheide, Alora Muckerheide,
Magnus Behm, and Maksim Behm; five great-great-grandchildren, Adrian,
Mitchell, Cailin, Makayla, and Shayne; a sister, Janet Rades of West Bend;
a daughter-in-law, Candice Behm of Fond du Lac; and many other dear
relatives and close friends.
Arnie was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Richard Behm; a
sister, Dorothy Pryga; and three brothers, Carroll, Lloyd, and Frederick
"Fritz" Behm.
Funeral services in remembrance of Arnie will be held on Saturday, Jan. 7
at 11:30 a.m. at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 809 S. Sixth Ave., West
Bend. Rev. Gerald Presuhn will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday at
the church from 9:30 am until the time of the service. Burial will take
place on Monday at 11 a.m. in Washington County Memorial Park.
