Laverne C. Bartness, 90

Laverne Bartness, known to her family and friends as Dottie, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at Horizon Hospice in Mequon, at the age of 90.

Dottie was born on May 16, 1921, in Ashland to Nicholas and Josephine Pehowski. She married Eldor "Bud" Bartness on Sept. 12, 1942, and enjoyed 65 years of marriage to her beloved Bud.

She is survived by her daughter, Patti (Dennis) Torkko, granddaughters, Wendy (Lawrence) Miller, of Cedarburg, and Kari (Eric) Schmidt, of Fitchburg. She is also survived by her sister, Evelyn Harvey, of Webster Groves, Mo., and by great-grandchildren, Nathan and Megan Miller, of Cedarburg, and Monica Schmidt, of Fitchburg. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Eldor "Bud" Bartness, her sister, Regina Riederer and her brother, Dr. Louis Pehowski.

Dottie had a beautiful voice and loved to sing – whether in the church choir or simply entertaining the family. She was an accomplished seamstress and owned and operated the Children’s Shop in Washburn for a number of years.

The family extends its gratitude to the caring staff at Lasata Care Center, Dr. Kevin Goniu and Horizon Hospice. Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Borgia North Catholic Church (1375 Covered Bridge Rd.), Cedarburg, on Friday Jan. 6, 2012, at 11 a.m. A visitation will be held on Friday, at the church, from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
