Daniel "Dan" William Bennett, 60, of Jackson, passed away on Jan. 9, 2012 after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. Dan left this life at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Dan attended the Spring Valley and Clyde schools in Clyde, graduated from River Valley High School in Spring Green, and attended UW-Platteville where he received his B.S in Industrial Education. He taught Industrial Arts Education at Campbellsport High School for three years. He then spent the next 33 years holding various positions with Wacker Neuson. After a brief early retirement, Dan briefly re-entered the work force in 2011 working as a service manager for Westpro.
Dan was very active in the West Bend community. He and his wife Mary Lynn have lived in the West Bend area for 36 years. Dan spent 30 of those years volunteering for the West Bend Police Department. Over the years he has also volunteered at Albrecht Free Clinic, served on the board for Jackson Park Recreation Department, various church picnics and community events. Most recently he also spent time supporting his wife’s nonprofit activities at Casa Guadalupe by fundraising, working as a project manager and helping with promotional activities. Dan was a member of St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in West Bend.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Lynn (Orlando), and three loving children, Thomas (Anna) of Milwaukee, Erica (Aaron) Adam and their son Owen of New Brighton, Minn., and Christine (Keane) Neilsen of Saginaw, Mich. Dan will be missed by his siblings, Brian (Karen) of Darlington, Joan of Racine, Charlene of King of Prussia, Pa., Dave (Mary) of Grafton; his brother-in-laws, Sonny (Marilyn) Orlando, Jerry (Kay) Orlando; and his niece and nephews, Peter Bennett, Eileen Bennett, Mark Bennett, and step nephews Matt (Amber) Wilson (children Emma & Gianna), Mark Wilson, and step-niece Amy (Tyler) Kattre (child Kyla), Jeff (Shannon) Orlando (children Philip, Aiden, Lauren), Marty (Ginny) Orlando (children Paige and Bailey), Marc (Jodi) Orlando (children Marc, Daniel, Melissa and Megan) and Zak (Alyssa) Felda. Dan is preceded in death by his father and mother, Daniel and Genevieve, and two brothers, Thomas and James.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Dan will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012 at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 406 Jefferson St., in West Bend. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, 2012 at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel, 1420 W. Paradise Drive in West Bend and will continue from 10-10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012 at the CHURCH ONLY. Interment of ashes will take place at St. Malachy’s Catholic Cemetery in the town of Clyde at a later date.
