Henry Pius Wiedmeyer, 91|
Henry Pius Wiedmeyer joined his Lord on Friday, Jan. 13 in Sun City West, Ariz.
He was born during a snowstorm on March 13, 1920 to Ambrose and Catherine Wiedmeyer in the town of West Bend. Raised on the family farm, he married Marcella Mueller on June 26, 1943. Together they raised eight children and celebrated 46 years together before her death in 1989.
They began married life farming before Henry moved into the construction business working as a plasterer for Bob Schalles before a devastating car accident in 1955 changed his life. Through grueling rehabilitation he taught himself how to walk again and learned to write left-handed due to nerve damage in his right arm. He joined St Frances Cabrini parish at its inception and became the custodian, rising early on wintry mornings to clear snow before school or Mass began until his retirement in 1985.
Known for his bad puns, Henry was a multi-talented man who could build or fix anything. He built numerous sandboxes, swings, ice-skating rinks, kites, skateboards, picnic tables and whatever else his children asked for. He later helped us with house additions and remodels lending us his talents and time whenever he could. He could be found on a ladder into his 86th year.
Henry lived in West Bend until moving to Sun City West to live with his daughter Teri in 2009. A man who lived to help others, he found it difficult to accept care himself. A deeply religious man, as his health deteriorated, he yearned to join his Lord and be again with Marcella, the only girl he had ever kissed. We take comfort that they are together again.
He was predeceased by his parents, wife and siblings John, Ellie, Paul, Ray, Tom, Joe and Ambrose Jr.
Henry is survived by his eight children, Jerry, Ray, Steve, Teri (Michael), Tom and Frank, all of Arizona, Henry Jr. of West Bend and Rose (Bob) of Cooksville, Wis. Six grandchildren, Connie (Jeff), Bryan (Jenny), Mickey (Bobbie), Katie (Steve), Jessie (Samantha) and Angie (Steve), along with 11 great-grandchildren, Brittany, Amber, Madison, Charity, Heather, Brandon, Kaley, Mihai, Breanna, Madison and Austin, and two great great
grandchildren, Samantha and Troy. He is further survived by his brother Ed, brother-in-law Robert Mueller, and sisters in-law Eileen Mueller, Adella Krell, Dorothy, Shirley, Helen, Jean and Joyce Wiedmeyer. His beloved constant companion, his dog Tiger, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A mass and gathering to celebrate Henry’s life is planned for June in West Bend. Memorials in Henry’s name may be sent to Hospice of Arizona, 1830 N. 95th Ave., Suite 110, Phoenix, AZ, 85037 or the charity of choice.
A special thank you to his nurse Joy for her wonderful care.
