Karen J. Metz, 68 Karen J. Metz of Fairfield Street in Cedarburg passed away in the afternoon hours of Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at Horizon Hospice in Mequon surrounded by her loving family. She was 68 years old. Karen was born in Milwaukee on Aug. 25, 1943, the daughter of Victor and Lorna Hott Kritz. She grew up in the town of Mayfield, and attended school in the Slinger area. On Aug. 27, 1960, she married Matthias Metz Jr. in West Bend. Karen was an avid reader, loved to sew and do embroidery, and also enjoyed bird watching and gardening. She is survived by her five children, Matt Metz III of Port Washington, Crescent (David) Kaemmer of Germantown, DeeAnne (Todd) Henning of Minneapolis, Amy Lowe of West Bend and Nicole Metz also of Minneapolis. Karen is further survived by her six grandchildren, Melynda (Michael), Joshua, Jeremy, Noah, Danielle and Jared; two sisters, Vicki Weber of Tucson, Ariz., and Linda Birkeland of West Bend; her brother, Victor Kritz Jr. of Massachusetts; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Matthias; and her sister, Kathleen Millen. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1167 Washington Ave., Cedarburg, with Pastor Carl Lehenbauer officiating. She will be inurned next to her husband at Washington County Memorial Park in West Bend. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Jan. 28, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Family Sharing of Ozaukee County.
