Helen M. Baierl, 79

Helen M. Baierl (nee Ploen), 79, of West Bend, passed away on Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at the Kathy Hospice surrounded by her family.

She was born on July 31, 1932 in Marshfield to the late Bert and Laura (Kipp) Ploen and was united in marriage to Donald F. Baierl on Aug. 15, 1953. They moved to West Bend in 1956 where they raised their four daughters.

She was employed at J.C. Penneyís, Alstonís, and Kohlís, before she opened Julie Ann Fabrics, the first fabric store in West Bend, with her sister Rosemarie Alf in 1968. She and Donald moved to Wisconsin Rapids in 1981 and then relocated back to West Bend after Donís retirement in 1992.

Helenís interests included reading, gardening, fashion, dominoes, jig-saw puzzles and any type of craft but most of all she loved decorating her house for the season. She was an exceptional seamstress and spent countless hours at her sewing machine becoming the "go to" person for all sewing and house-hold questions from both her children and friends. Above all, her family came first. She was a devoted mother and loved her grandchildren and became the great-grandmother for the first time to a pair of twins. She especially enjoyed the annual week vacationing up north, as well as, numerous family get-togethers.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Donald; four daughters: Wendy (Dale) Kempf, Lynn (Bob) Fuge, Sheree (Bob) Gibson, and Gail Gannon all of West Bend; 11 grandchildren: Andy (girlfriend Bridget Kearns), Ryan, Jason and Eric Kempf, Joe (Kym) and Kelsey (fiancť Wes Krimmer) Remillard, Maddie, Emma, Mollie, and Jack Gibson and Christopher Gannon; two great-grandchildren, Keegan and Kilynn Remillard; a sister, Bernice Riedel; a brother, Gerald Ploen; two sisters-in-law, Rita Ploen and Virgean Ploen; and a brother-in-law, Cliff Baierl.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by three brothers: Charles, Harold, Robert; and her sister, Rosemarie Alf.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon on Thursday, Jan. 26 at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church with Father Nate Reesman presiding. Visitation will take place with relatives and friends at the church only on Thursday from 9:30 to 11:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to St. Frances Cabrini Church or the Kathy Hospice.

Helenís family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and a special thank you to Dr. Mike Mosley, Dr. Robert Gibson and the staff at Kathy Hospice for their care and compassion during her final days.

She will be greatly missed, but when someone is in your heart theyíre never truly gone.
