Larry D. Engstad of West Bend lost his brave battle with lymphoma on Sunday, July 22, 2012, at the Samaritan Health Center at the age of 60 years. He was born on Feb. 24, 1952, in La Crosse to the late Gerald and Dorothea (nee Farris) Engstad.
Larry was a unique person who endeared himself to almost everyone that met him. He started his work career at Prescott’s Super Value and was a faithful employee for almost 40 years.
He is survived by his loving sisters Pam Meinke of West Bend and Patty Peterson (John Karst) of West Bend, nieces and nephews Tim and Karen, Julie and Sam, Chris and Tammy, Aaron and Ali and Sean and their children. He is further survived by dear aunts Lorraine Engstad (Charles) and Marion Engstad, beloved cousins Vicki (Tom), Becky (Wayne), Beth (Rich), Jennifer (Joe), David (Sheila) and Kevin (Sue) and their children and grandchildren, and his long-time companion Donna and friends Jerry Kuckuk and Jim Anderson.
For his loving care and support, the family wishes to thank the Cedar Community staff, Horizon Home Care, Bridges Home Care staff, St. Joseph’s Hospital nurses and social workers, Samaritan Health Center and Heartland Hospice. Special thanks to his loyal physicians Dr. Bruce Griswold and Dr. Colin Mooney and the entire staff of the Kraemer Cancer Care Center and the Vicars of St. John’s Lutheran Church in West Bend.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 24, at 5:30 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home in West Bend with Vicar Chris Bruskiewicz officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Washington County Memorial Park. The family will greet relatives and friends during a period of visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-5:15 p.m.
The family has requested memorials to Larry’s home church, St. John’s Lutheran Church of West Bend.
