Rita Margaret Scheer, 85

Rita Margaret (nee Clapham) Scheer passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at the age of 85.

Rita, the daughter of the late Arthur and Anne Clapham, was a Grafton resident her entire life. She was awarded a citizen of the year award for her dedicated work with the Grafton Fire Department and other local events. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School and then Grafton High School.

Through her best friend, Vera Scheer, she met the love of her life, Elroy Scheer. Rita and Elroy celebrated their 65th year of marriage this year. Together they raised five children. Rita adored her eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Rita cherished her family more than anything in this world. She often showed this with beautifully decorated cakes, hand sewn clothing items, lovingly cooked homemade meals and fresh bakery.

She was an accomplished artist, winning an art scholarship. Many of her art pieces were given away as memorable gifts. Rita will be most remembered for her generous heart and the warm smile that she was always quick to share.

Rita will be sadly missed by her husband, Elroy; children, Frank (Mary), Richard (Shirley), Susan (Steve) Pokey and Michael (Debbie) Scheer; grandchildren, Jason (Sue-Lynn) Scheer, Kimberly (Tim) Masenthin, Melissa Pokey, Nicholas Pokey, James (Nikhila) Schroeder, Jason (Michelle) Schroeder, Noah Scheer and Mikaela Scheer; great- grandchildren, Madison Scheer, Jacob Scheer, Caleb Masenthin, Toby Masenthin, Taylor Schroeder and Alexa Schroeder; brother, John

(Lorna) Clapham; sister-in-law, Vera Schmidt; and many others.

Welcoming Rita into heaven are her parents, Arthur and Anne Clapham; daughter, Anne Scheer; sister, Harriet (Lester) Hoffmann; brother, Robert (Rose) Clapham; brothers-in-law, Chester Gramoll and Raymond Schmidt; in-laws, Frank and Edna Scheer; and many beloved family and friends. Extended family includes the staff of Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation in Port Washington. Their excellent and loving care for the past nine years was greatly appreciated by Rita and her entire family.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grafton. Burial was in the church cemetery. If desired, memorials in Rita’s name can be directed to the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight program in Port Washington.
