Mary Cay Schmidt
Mary Cay "MC, Ms. Muck" Schmidt (nee Muckerheide, formerly Richardson), 62, died peacefully on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at the Kathy Hospice.
She was born Sept. 30, 1949 in Fond du Lac to Bernard and Patricia (nee Foy) Richardson. Her father died when Mary Cay was 2. Her mother then married Clarence Muckerheide and he adopted Patricia’s children and raised them as his own. On June 24, 2000 Mary Cay married LeRoy W. "Tyrone" Schmidt at Holy Angels Catholic Church in West Bend. Leroy preceded her in death on April 7, 2009.
Mary Cay taught in Milwaukee for five years before teaching at Holy Angels Catholic School in West Bend for 35 years.
She is survived by her mother Patricia Muckerheide of Fond du Lac and siblings: Jim and Sandy Muckerheide of West Bend and their children Andrew and Tammy; Mary Ann and Joe Wiener of Chippewa Falls and their children Chris (Shelly), Greg, Nick (Kristen) and Sarah (Adam) Bleskacek; Bob and Linda Muckerheide of Frisco, Texas and his children Michael (Irene), Maria and Patricia (Jose) Lopez; Bernie Muckerheide of Georgia; May Pat and John Kirsch of Malone and her son Jason; Mary Jo and Joe Klein of Milwaukee and their children Francis and John; Mark Muckerheide of Vancouver, Wash. and children Victoria, Vanessa, Veronique and Victor; Paul and Debbie Muckerheide of Milwaukee; Tim Muckerheide of Casper, Wyo. and his special partner John Crawford; and Sonia Muckerheide of West Bend and her children Jessica (Ryan) Schaefer and Scott.
She is further survived by her mother-in-law Ruth Schmidt of West Bend and brothers-in law and sistersin-law: Diane Zalewski of Kewaskum and daughter Shawn (Scott) Zimmermann; Jane and Gerald "Hap" Rettler of Campbellsport and sons Ben (Heather), Andy (Sue), and daughter Melissa (Ricky) Kratz; Joyce and Bob Bernhagen of Kewaskum and their children Craig and Anna; and David and Karen Schmidt of Hartford and his daughter Nikki (Nick) Pari. She is also survived by special friends Mike and Gail Bassill; Jenny and Clint Swanson and family; dear neighbors Alice Oelhafen and the Carter family; her faithful and loyal black lab companion Thor; numerous great-nieces and greatnephews; 35 years of faculty friends and students at Holy Angels Catholic School; and and other relatives and friends.
Mary Cay is preceded in death by her father Bernard Richardson, her dad Clarence Muckerheide, her husband LeRoy, her father-inlaw Harold "Shorty" Schmidt, her aunt Helen Foy; sister-in-law Stevie Muckerheide, brother-inlaw Jack Zalewski; two nieces Melissa and Catherine; and close friend Laurie Zautner.
A Mass of Christian burial for Mary Cay will take place on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 7 p.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Parish in West Bend with Rev. Gerald Brittain presiding. Inurnment will be in Holy Angels Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends for a period of visitation on Wednesday, at the church only from 1-6:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Holy Angels School Trust Fund or the Washington County Humane Society are appreciated.
Mary Cay and her family would like to extend a special and heartfelt Thank You to the oncology doctors, nurses, and staff at the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic in Slinger and the nursing staff at the Kathy Hospice House of West Bend.
