Marie L. Wiedmeyer, 84


Marie L. Wiedmeyer (nee Techtman), of West Bend, passed away Friday, June 29, 2012, after a long and hard fought battle with cancer, at the age of 84.

She was born Nov. 10, 1927, to the late Edwin and Martha (nee Abel) Techtman at there home in Milwaukee. At a young age she moved from Milwaukee to Third Avenue in West Bend and later to the homestead on 15th Avenue. Marie attended St. John’s Lutheran School and went on to graduate West Bend High School in 1945.

On July 10, 1948. she married Walter P. Wiedmeyer at Holy Angels Church. In the years to follow, Marie and Wally raised five children, jointly owned a wholesale candy distributorship and traveled extensively.

Marie held past offices as secretary for St. Frances Cabrini Christian Mothers, and Archdiocesan Counsel of Catholic Women. She chaired and co-chaired church rummage sales, bazaars and volunteered countless hours as library /school aide and crossing guard as the family grew up. She assisted in running the church kitchen for dinners and fund raisers.

Marie continued her volunteer work at Holy Angels Church and St Joseph’s Hospital in West Bend and along the way was a member of Young At Heart with her husband, Walter. They gave tirelessly helping seniors and delivering Meals on Wheels. After her husband’s death she continued her volunteer work with The Legion of Mary as secretary and vice president and treasurer and helped with the Legion of Mary. She made weekly visits with other members to see sick and homebound seniors. Marie was an avid knitter and quilter and aided the Holy Angels Mission group in sewing quilts.

Marie and Wally’s camping adventures took them far and wide across all but a few of the 50 states. They were members of the Holiday Rambler Travel Trailer Club for 27 years and one of the founding members of the West Bend Vagabenders Camping Club. Marie visited and toured European countries on many visits and traveled to Mexico, Australia/New Zealand and many other fascinating places.

Survivors include five children, Richard E. (Joanne) of West Bend, Raymond G. (Karen) of St. Paul, Minn., Linda M. (Timothy) Martin of White Bear Lake, Minn., LuAnne M. Spaeth of West Bend and Lorrie K. O’Neal of St. Paul, Minn..; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor Runke of New Ulm, Minn.; a foster sister-in-law, Bernadine (Harvey) Kuehl of Milwaukee and other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Walter P., a daughter, Susan Marie, a brother, Lewis Fred Techtman and two grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 2, 2012, at 6 p.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church in West Bend with the Rev. Gerald Brittain presiding. Inurnment will be Tuesday in Holy Angels Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends for a period of visitation on Monday, at the church only from 4-5:45 p.m. Memorials to the Holy Angels School Trust Fund are appreciated.
