Betsy Ann Breitling, 92|
Betsy Ann Breitling, 92, nee Drescher, of Laurie, Mo. found peace April 30, 2012 at the Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, Mo. She was a resident of the Laurie Care Center in Laurie, Mo. for the past six months due to failing health. She was born to the late Henry and Vera Drescher of Palmyra, Mo., Jan. 1, 1920.
Betsy lived in the Jackson-West Bend area for more than 50 years and was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 486 in Jackson of which she was past president and secretary. She was district president 1967-1969. She was a member of the Badger Girls State staff in Madison for 10 years and served five years in state chairmanship. She logged more than 500 hours as a volunteer at Wood Veterans Hospital. She ran for state Assembly in 1961.
Betsy graduated in the class of 1939 from William Woods University, Fulton, Mo. and was appointed secretary to the adjutant general of Missouri in Jefferson City. In 1942 she was named secretary to the commanding general at Fort Leonard Wood by the Civil Service Commission. She was secretary for the West Bend Senior Citizens for 10 years. She was an avid sports fan and bridge player.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara (Howard) Bruss of West Bend, one granddaughter, Dawn (Oliver) Mc Kay of Fredonia, one brother, James Drescher of Palmyra, Mo., one brother-in-law, James Lyon of Sunrise Beach, Mo., nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She is preceded in death by her son Philip Charles Breitling III, one grandson, Howard L. Bruss Jr., loving sister Janet Drescher Lyon, and brother John Drescher.
Betsy requested no services. The family will inter ashes at a later date in Missouri.
