Charles ‘Chuck’ J. Ries, 81 |
Charles “Chuck” J. Ries, of West Bend, went home to be with the Lord at his winter residence in Zephyrhills, Fla., on Friday, April 13, 2012, at the age of 81 years.
Chuck was born on June 26, 1930, in San Pedro, Calif., to Kenneth and Harriet (nee Smith) Ries. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Milwaukee, and in 1946, they moved to Slinger. He graduated from Slinger High School, Class of 1949.
In 1950, Chuck enlisted in the United States Air Force. On July 18, 1951, he married Ethel Schwartz. He spent 1 1/2 years in England and upon his return, Ethel and he lived in Texas until the end of his enlistment and in Mesa, Ariz., until their return to Wisconsin in 1956. Together, Chuck and Ethel were the owners and operators of Ries’s Standard Service in Slinger for over 30 years. Chuck was also a longtime member of St. John’s UCC in Slinger for over 66 years.
Chuck’s main love was his family. He enjoyed dancing and spending winters in Florida. He enjoyed traveling with Ethel in their RV for over 50 years, covering all the mainland states including Alaska. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their sporting events.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ethel; daughter Pam (Greg) Jonas; and grandchildren Bradley (fiancée Brittany), Courtney, and Elizabeth Jonas. He is further survived by his brothers Kenneth (Mary Ann) of Centerville, Ga., and Gerald (Jenni) of Pinellas Park, Fla.; sister-in-law Bev (Bob) Walter of West Bend; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
Chuck is preceded in death by his daughters Sharon Olsen and Debora Ries.
A memorial service for Chuck will be at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2012, at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel, 1420 W. Paradise Drive in West Bend with the Rev. Jack Freiheit presiding. Visitation will be from 3-4:45 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2012 at the funeral home only. Private interment of ashes will take place at Diefenbach Cemetery in Slinger. Memorials are appreciated to St. John’s UCC in Slinger.
