Jack W. LaBuda, 86 |
Jack W. LaBuda, of Theresa, May 11, 1925 — May 5, 2012, passed away peacefully with family and friends present at Cedar Community in West Bend. He is survived by his daughters Barbara Lee Knapp and Patricia Ann LaBuda as well as his special friend Nancy Kafura.
Jack is preceded in death by his wife Geneva Mardel “Marty” in 1998, his son William David in 1997, who was also a Marine with combat service, and an infant son Jack Walter Jr.
Jack led a long and active life. Born and raised in Michigan, he joined the Marines in 1942 and saw combat in the Pacific Theater. He married shortly after being discharged and spent most of his life in Illinois and Wisconsin. Jack and Marty raised their family in and around Milwaukee. In 1971, he and Marty moved to Flagstaff, Ariz., and in 1999, Jack moved to West Bend to be close to Patricia and friends.
Jack was very independent but a “people person” who always had a joke or story for everyone he met. He started and ran several businesses, some with employees and many as a single proprietor. These businesses included: merchandise delivery to retail stores, a full-service gas station, student housing in a small college town, a dry cleaner and a saw shop. He seemed the happiest when working with his hands and interacting with people. Jack’s motto was, “I don’t always know what to do, but I always do the best I can.”
No formal services for Jack will be held.
