Lyle W. Mertz, 82

Lyle W. Mertz, 82, of Fond du Lac, passed away Monday, May 21, at St. Agnes Hospital.

He was born June 19, 1929, in Hustisford, the son of William and Elizabeth (nee Gernetzke) Mertz. Lyle attended the one-room country school. He was number 10 in a family of 11 children. Most of his life, he helped on the family farm in Juneau. Lyle then helped his older sister Mabel Schumacher on her homestead, and then went to work for Brooks Industry in Fond du Lac. He loved spending time working on puzzles, but above all, spending time with his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his siblings, twin sisters Mae Schwensow of Juneau and Mabel Schumacher of Fond du Lac, Ervin (Ruth) Mertz of West Bend, Otto Mertz of Beaver Dam, Vida Stueber of Juneau and Dale Maas of Hartford. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Lyle is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings and their spouses Della Mertz, Hilda Maas, Iva (John) Meyer, Erna Mertz, infant brother Rohen Mertz, Clarence Schwensow, Art Schumacher, Marlene Mertz, and Clarence Stueber.

Visitation will be held from 2-3 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, at the Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home in Juneau. Funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Thomas Behnke will officiate. Interment to follow at Lowell Cemetery. The Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home of Juneau is serving the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Paulís Lutheran Church, 1010 Adams Ave., North Fond du Lac, WI 54937, in Lyleís name, would be appreciated.
