John P. Van Slyke
John P. Van Slyke Sr. of Grafton passed away peacefully at Columbia St. Maryís Ozaukee Campus on May 21, 2012, at the age of 77, surrounded by his loving family after a short illness.
John was born in Cross Plains on July 10, 1934, the son of Lloyd H. and Ruth Ellen (nee Hodge) Van Slyke, who preceded him in death.
John was united in marriage to Diana (nee Berge) on Feb. 14, 1964, in Madison. John served in the U.S. Army from Sept. 22, 1959, to Sept. 21, 1961, and was a member of the Cedarburg Peter Wollner American Legion Post 288. John enjoyed taking classes at the Cedarburg Senior Center and was a lifetime learner and storyteller.
Johnís greatest pride and joy was his family and everyone knew how much he loved them. He was a gentle and loving person, a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Diana (nee Berge); children, John II (Kristina) and Janice (Rodney) Ross; grandchildren, Emily and Shawn Ross; and Josephine and Marguerite Van Slyke; father- in-law, Harold Berge; and brother-in-law, Robert (Beth) Berge.
A family tribute to John will be held at Mueller Funeral Home & Crematory in Grafton on Friday, May 25, 2012, at 6 p.m. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Memorials of your choice are appreciated.
