Vivian Hammermeister

Vivian Hammermeister, nee Brinkmann, formerly Breuer, passed away suddenly to meet her Savior on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at Froedtert Hospital after complications from surgery.

Vivian was born on May 13, 1926, to Walter and Helen (nee Kreilkamp) Brinkmann. She grew up in rural Allenton until marrying Gilbert Breuer on May 13, 1950, at Sacred Heart Church in Allenton. She moved with Gilbert to West Bend where together they raised their family.

Gilbert passed away on July 24, 1977, and on Aug. 9, 1980, she married Donald Hammermeister at Immanuel United Church of Christ in West Bend. The couple lived in the Cedar Lake area until 2002 when Donald passed away on Aug. 14. She then lived at Park Place until residing at Riverway Place beginning in December 2010 until the present time.

Vivian always enjoyed music, spending many evenings listening to polka music. She enjoyed dancing in her younger years and later played the organ. She was part of the Senior Center Chorus for many years. She spent many evenings listening to polka music. She made many quilts which she gave to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing sheepshead at card parties, the Senior Center and at Riverway Place where she also took part in many bingo games.

In her early years, Vivian enjoyed working outdoors doing yard work, gardening and growing her many perennials. She spent many years working at St. Joseph’s Hospital, West Bend in the housekeeping department and after retirement was a Pink Lady. After retirement, she enjoyed many trips to the casino traveling by bus with friends. She had wonderful travels to Alaska, Hawaii and Europe.

S u r v ivo r s include three children Marjorie (Roger) Kufahl of West Bend, Roger (Kathy) Breuer of West Bend and Cindy (Jeff) Steinhardt of Arvada, Colo.; six grandchildren Brenda (Joel) Schneiss of Campbellsport, Angela (Steven) Beisbier of Allenton, Kim (Steve) Gonnering of West Bnd, Dawn (Matt) Wilhelm of Allenton and Adam and Alison Steinhardt of Arvada, Colo.; six great-grandchildren Paige and Marshall Schneiss, Payton and Griffen Beisbier and Annabelle and Anthony Gonnering; and other relatives and friends, including special friends Jerry Fait and Lillian Blank.

In addition to her husbands Gilbert and Donald, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Laura David, on July 3, 2011; her parents, Walter and Helen Brinkmann; and one brother Victor Brinkmann and his wife, Evelyn.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 29, at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel United Church of Christ with the Rev. Rich Vincent officiating. Burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the church only on Tuesday from 9-10:15 a.m.

The family would like to thank the staff at Froedtert Hospital while Vivian was a patient there for the past week. They are also thankful to the staff at Riverway Place, especially Monica who mom was very fond of. We love you, mom, grandma and great-grandma, until we meet again.
