Roger Nehrbass, 73, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at Milan Estates in Saukville after a long illness.
Roger was born Aug. 11, 1939, in Milwaukee, the son of Melvin and Lillian Smith Nehrbass. He was raised in West Bend with his siblings Lorence, Robert Patricia and Susan.
After high school, Roger went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduated as a mechanical engineer. After exploring different career options, he began working at the Wisconsin Gas Company where he remained for 36 years. He started as a foreman, and retired as vice president of gas distribution and chief engineer.
On Feb. 1, 1964, he was united in marriage with Donna Pomahac in Milwaukee. The couple lived in West Bend, before moving their young family to Port Washington in 1974. Roger was a member of the Jaguar Club and Friendship Sloop Society and loved working and helping to develop the Port Washington Yacht Club. He proudly built two houses, two boats (one a Friendship Sloop), two cars (his favorite was a Jaguar XKSS), and most of the furniture in his home. He loved his garden from which he canned pickles and tomatoes, and was known for the breads he baked.
Rogerís family will remember his motto of: ďI can fix it, I can change it, I can do it, or Iíll just make it!Ē
Roger is survived by his wife Donna of Port Washington and their three children: Christopher of Appleton, Patrick (Michelle) of Granite Bay, Calif. and Jennifer (Orrin) Myers of Albuquerque, N.M. He is further survived by three grandchildren: Madison, Delaney and Colette; siblings: Lorence Nehrbass of West Bend, Patricia Gremminger of Grapevine, Texas, Robert Nehrbass of West Bend and Susan (Rory) Gorman of Hot Springs, Ark.; mother-in-law Doris Pomahac of Port Washington; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Port Washington Yacht Club, 430 N. Lake St., Port Washington, with a time of gathering from 1-4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Wisconsin Parkinson Association (www.wiparkinson.org).
