Susan Marie Stowers, 67

Born to the Earth on June 11, 1945. Returned to the Earth in peace on Sept. 11, 2012.

Susan Marie Stowers, 67, grew up in Milwaukee, with her parents, Bob and Ione Maertz; and sister, Sally. She had a passion for horses her entire life and was also an avid photographer and nature lover, preferring to capture images of birds and butterflies while hiking the coulees of La Crosse County. Among her botanical interests was to repopulate the American Chestnut tree and cull invasive species such as the Autumn Olive.

Susan cared deeply about our national parks and natural resources, and had a particular affinity for Yellowstone National Park. She loved to travel, which she did with her husband, Jim, all over the world. Susan was a devoted mother who dedicated her life to raising her children while passing to each of them hobbies, interests and knowledge, which will survive in perpetuity.

She is survived by her husband, Jim of Bangor (formerly of Grafton); and their six children, Andy, Angela, George, Bob, Melissa and Merri; and her eight grandchildren, Samantha, Lauren, Liam, William, Pilar, Tristen, Logan, and Brody. She is also survived by her sister, Sally Wise of West Bend; and her father, Bob Maertz of Saukville.
