August F. ‘Augie’ Bilgo, 83

August F. “Augie” Bilgo, 83, of Kewaskum, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at his home with his loving family at his side.

He was born on June 22, 1929, in the family home in Kewaskum, the son of the late August C. and Esther (Belger) Bilgo, and on July 18, 1953, he was united in marriage to Verla Schloemer at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend.

Augie was a 1947 graduate of Kewaskum High School. He honorably served and was an active member of the Kewaskum Fire Department from Nov. 1, 1951 until retiring on Dec. 1, 1985. He served as fire chief from 1975 until 1985. During his tenure as chief, Augie supervised the construction of the Fire Department building at its current location.

He was employed by the village of Kewaskum for 16 years, retiring as superintendent of Public Works in 1991. Augie was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Campbellsport.

Those Augie leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 59 years, Verla; four children, Debbie (Mike) Doherty of Kewaskum, Doug (Mary) Bilgo of Campbellsport, Jim (Anne) Bilgo of Howards Grove and Sherry (Scott) Thelen of Kewaskum; 11 g randchildren, Nicole (Scott), Damien, Austin, Kim (Tedi), Whitney (fiancé, Alex), Danielle, Tyler, Riley, Rachel, Paige (fiancé, Josh) and Jade; two great-grandchildren, Emmerson and Beckham; and other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Augie was preceded in death by his brother, Roger (Barbara) Bilgo.

Funeral services for Augie will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Campbellsport. The Rev. Paul Cerny will officiate and burial will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday in Lutheran Memorial Park in Kewaskum.

Relatives and friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 3 p.m. until the time services. Current and retired members of the Kewaskum Fire Department will have an honorary walk through at 6 p.m.
