Walter E. Yanke, 92

Walter E. Yanke, 92, of Jackson died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at the Cedar Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cedarburg.

He was born Jan. 20, 1920, in Milwaukee to the late Ernst and Alma (nee Sonnenberg) Yanke and married Ruth I. Dahlinger on April 18, 1942, in Milwaukee.
Wally served in the U.S. Army during World War II and then worked at A.O. Smith for many years, retiring in 1984. He enjoyed fishing and spending time at his homes up north.

Wally is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ruth, his son Jeff (Bonnie) of Cedarburg four grandsons: Jason (Colleen) of Gleason, Wis., Jeremy (special friend Jen) of Newton, Joshua of Adell and Justin (Melissa) of Port Washington, and six great-grandchildren: Jon Yanke, Jordan Yanke, Nolan Podlipsky, Jillian Yanke, Ella Yanke and Nora Yanke. He is further survived by his sister Lorna Forbes of Neenah, his sister-in-law Gunilde Yanke of West Bend, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ernst and Alma Yanke, three brothers: Melvin (Grace), Roland and Leroy, and two brothers-inlaw: Robert Forbes and Fred Dahlinger.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home in Jackson with Chaplain Cheryl Matusiak officiating. Visitation will be Friday, at the funeral home from 4-6:15 p.m. Memorials to the American Cancer Society are appreciated.
