Grace H. Schaefer, 96
Grace
H. Schaefer (nee Bartel), 96, of West Bend, passed away Sunday, Sept. 9,
2012, at Cedar Community.
Grace was born on July 18, 1916 in Wautoma to Frederick and Martha (nee
Bandt) Bartel. She was a graduate of Wautoma High School; Waushara
County Normal and a Milwaukee business college. She married Arthur
Schaefer in Wautoma in September 1941 and they eventually settled in
Menomonee Falls.
Grace was a dedicated wife, loving mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother, homemaker, an accomplished gardener, 4-H Leader,
member of the Northwood Neighbors Homemakers, and active in her church
wherever she lived. She and Arthur participated in overseas mission
trips to India, Bogatá, Columbia, Kenya and Sierra Leone. She and Arthur
moved to West Bend 29 years ago where she had an active life in the
Cedar Community. She was a dedicated member of Fifth Avenue United
Methodist Church, West Bend.
Grace is survived by her children Carol (Lewis) Smith, Sandy (Thomas)
Spannagle, Jody Borecki, Thomas (Christine) Schaefer, Phillip (Terumi)
Schaefer. She is further survived by her grandchildren Pam (Ron) Cramer,
Kim (Kevin) Braatz, Chris (Tim) Langille, Karen (Nick) Camene, April
(fiancé Tony Bonadeo) Borecki, Ashley Borecki, Faye (Dan) Uttech, Jill
(Brad) Dobie, Daniel Schaefer, Margaret Schaefer (fiancé Hans Huang),
Steven Schaefer, greatg r a n d ch i l d re n Sam and Lara Cramer, Will,
Eli, Claire Braatz, Sophia and Carson Langille, Addison and Cassidy
Camene, Tommy and Silas Dobie and Jack Uttech, sister-in-law Iva Parker,
brother-in-law Dick Richardson, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends,
especially from Cedar Community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Rose (Don) Fuller,
Loretta (Allen) Fitzgerald, brothers John (Ruth) Bartel, William Bartel,
Ben (Laverne) Bartel and Marvin (Lucille) Bartel.
A funeral service for Grace will be on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 10:30 a.m.
at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel of West Bend with Pastor Wes Falk
presiding. Interment to follow service at Washington County Memorial
Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday, Sept. 15, from
9 a.m. until time of service (10:30 a.m.). Memorials are appreciated to
Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church or Cedar Community.
