Douglas A. ‘Doug’ Kornemann, 78
Douglas A. "Doug" Kornemann of Grafton passed away on Sunday, Sept. 16,
2012, at Luther Manor at River Oaks, Mequon, at the age
of 78. He was born on Sept. 2, 1934, in Milwaukee to
Albert and Madelyn Kornemann (nee Peot), who both
preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Mother of Good Counsel, Messmer
High School, Marquette University (earning his Bachelor
of Science degree in business administration), and the
University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (earning his Master’s
degree in education).
He served in the U.S. military (Army) twice; once in
the regular Army in the 1950s and later as a medic in
the 32nd Division during the Berlin Crisis from 1961 to
1962. He was honorably discharged.
He worked for 17 years as an inside and outside sales
representative, plus store manager for Goodyear
throughout Wisconsin; after which he worked for Praefke
Brake for two years. Upon receiving his Master’s degree
in education, he taught at Gateway Technical College for
a year and then became an instructor in the marketing
department of the business division at Milwaukee Area
Technical College, teaching sales, advertising and
internship courses for over 25 years. Before retiring he
had become the marketing department chairman.
He helped mentor and coach the MATC DECCA Club
students, developing sales promotion and advertising
campaigns for national competition, along with doing the
same for his students competing in AAA competitions held
in Madison each March. Many of his students competed and
won many kudos. He also served in committees that helped
to develop a marriage between business needs and the
needs of the MATC students.
Upon retirement in May 2002, he traveled with his
wife, Judy, played golf many times a week, took art
classes, worked out at Feith YMCA five times a week,
consulted companies giving them marketing ideas, and
mentored his graduates of MATC.
He and his surviving wife, Judith R. "Judy" Kornemann,
were married for 52 years, living 45 of those years in
Grafton. He is also survived by his son, Michael D.
Kornemann (Phyllis) of Madison; his son, David D.
Kornemann of Shorewood; his daughter, Susan E. Kornemann
Hansen (Michael) of West Bend; and granddaughters,
Amelia M. Hansen and Lydia J. Hansen.
With deep gratitude and love, the Kornemann family
gratefully thanks all the people at Luther Manor at
River Oaks for the loving care you gave him during this
last year.
A private immediate-family-only service will be held
at a future date at Mueller Funeral Home & Crematory of
Cedarburg.
In lieu of any flowers, donations to any charity of
choice, Feith YMCA of Saukville or Riveredge Nature
Center of Newburg are appreciated.
