Mildred L. Ulik, 87

Mildred L. Ulik (nee Hartwig), 87, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013. She was born on July 24, 1925, to Albert and Hilda (nee Stoecker) Hartwig and was raised on a farm in Saukville. She married James McFarland on July 26, 1947, at St. Johnís Lutheran Church and they started a family. James passed away on Sept. 14, 1968, and she later married Donald Ulik Sr. on July 24, 1971.

Mildred enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. She made a quilt for each of her children, grandchildren and other family members. She also made them for vicars at the church and they were shared with people all over the world. She enjoyed gardening, watching the Packers and was an avid NASCAR fan, especially the Busch Brothers. She was a woman of strong faith who loved her family and friends, and enjoyed playing with her grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and greatgreat- granddaughter. Mildred was a very active member of St. Johnís Lutheran Church Ladies Auxiliary in Newburg, Quilterís Club at Samaritan Home and the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 1393.

She is survived by her loving children, Dennis (Diane) McFarland, David (Lynn) McFarland, Judith (Ray Mueller) McFarland, Pamela (Paul) Czerwinski; son-in-law, James Guttmann; stepchildren, Donald Jr. (Judy) Ulik, Jane (Emil) Glodeski, Carol (Richard) Sturm, and Gregg (Pauline) Ulik; sisters, Alita Berling, Dorothy (Leland Schultz) Demmon; brother, Albert (Agnes) Hartwig; sister-inlaw, Ilma Hartwig; 26 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, James McFarland; second husband, Donald Ulik Sr.; daughter, Debra Guttmann; and siblings, Henry Hartwig, Alma Beimborn, infant Viola, Eleanor Weckworth and Elfrieda Benicke.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at 6 p.m. at St. Johnís Lutheran Church (623 Congress St., Newburg, WI 53060) with the Rev. Jon Baumann presiding. The visitation will be held at the church Tuesday, Jan. 15 from 3-5:45 p.m. Interment will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 10 a.m. at St. Johnís Lutheran Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Johnís Lutheran Church or School.
