Ardyce M. Peterson, 83

Ardyce M. “Ardy” Peterson, nee Afdahl, 83, of West Bend, left to be with Jesus on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at the Aurora Medical Center in Summit. She was born on Feb. 24, 1929, on the family homestead farm in Pleasant Valley Township, Hammond, to the late Herman and Gladys (nee Owens) Afdahl. She attended Valley View Grade School and graduated from Baldwin High School in the class of 1947. Ardy attended the University of Minnesota and graduated from the University of Wisconsin River Falls receiving her degree in education.

Ardy taught at the Edgerton schools for a short time before moving to West Bend when she began teaching in the West Bend School District at McLane, Decorah, Jackson and Barton Elementary schools for 30 years, retiring in 1991.

Ardy married Glenn Peterson Jr. on Nov. 24, 1956, in Hammond.

Ardy was a charter member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, past president of AAUW, former Girl Scout leader and a volunteer at Youth With A Mission (YWAM). In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling.

Ardy is survived by her three children, Laurie Spors of West Bend, Gary (Julie) Peterson of Roberts, and Joni (Keith) Lundin of Oconomowoc; “Granny” to 10 grandchildren, James (Jen) Spors, Melissa (John) Tauben, Katelyn (Tim) Taylor, Matthew (fiancee, Jeanna) Spors, Leah (Dave) Ott, Caleb Peterson, Josh Peterson, Niel Peterson, Emuannel Peterson, and Amy (fiance, Adam) Lundin; 10 great-grandchildren, Raymond, Iris, Lily, Charlie, Violet, Rylan, Evan, Hunter, Landon, and Hazel; one brother, Herb (Lori) Afdahl of Anthum, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Ruth Afdahl of Baldwin; special friend, Delores Reiton-Vrieze of Baldwin; her YWAM family; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Ardy was preceded in death by her parents and brother, David.

A visitation in remembrance of Ardy will be held on Sunday, Jan. 27, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1044 Silverbrook Drive, West Bend, from 2-5 p.m. with thoughts and prayers to follow. Cremation will follow at Myrhum-Patten Funeral and Cremation Service. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Historic Woodside Place in Baldwin with inurnment in Woodside Cemetery in Baldwin.

Memorials in Ardy’s name to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or YWAM Northwood in Weyerhauser, Wis. are appreciated by the family.
