Dustin Joshua Heyn, 30

Dustin Joshua Heyn, 30, of West Bend, found peace with his Lord and set his journey to Heaven on March 22, 2013.

Dustin was born in Tucson, Ariz., on Dec. 14, 1982. He attended grade school there and graduated from Vail High School outside of Tucson, Ariz. After high school he worked as a plumber’s assistant in new home construction. In August 2004, Dustin decided to move to Wisconsin to be with his mother and family. Dustin was a student at the University of Wisconsin-Washington County where his goal was to major in botany. While living in Wisconsin, Dustin enjoyed the outdoors, helping plant the family garden and trees in the yard. Dustin had a great love for the family dog, Gunner, who was constantly at his side. Most of all, he enjoyed being outdoors regardless of the season; hiking, camping, fishing in the summer with his mom and his brother Eric, hunting in the fall with Craig, and ice fishing in the winter with his brother Eric and his friend Andy. Needless to say, Gunner was always right there, too. Dustin along with his brother also liked to debate football, especially with Craig.

Dustin also served in the U.S. Army Infantry for approximately two years. In 2011, Dustin decided to relocate to Marseilles, France where he joined the French Foreign Legion exploring the surrounding countryside, making new friends and enjoying the European culture. While in France, he improved his French vocabulary, which he had studied prior to leaving Wisconsin. Due to a knee injury, Dustin returned to West Bend in the spring of 2012. In the fall of that year, Dustin met Mackenzi Polzin and they became fast friends and soon after became engaged. At the time of his passing, Dustin was employed as a maintenance and grounds person with Deer Crossings of West Bend.

Dustin is survived by his loving mother, Pamela Stiver; his cherished brother, Eric Graham; his friend and hunting partner, Craig Wentz; aunts and uncles: Robert (Laurene) Heyn of Hiles, Wis.; Patricia (Wesley) Brown of West Bend; Richard (Ronda) Heyn of Alburn, Wash.; Sandra Heyn of West Bend, and David Heyn of Alburn, Wash. He is also survived by his fiance, Mackenzi Polzin; his stepfather, Terry Graham; and many cousins and friends.

A memorial service for Dustin will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013, at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel, 1420 W. Paradise Drive, in West Bend. Gathering will take place at the funeral home from 4-6:45 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013. Memorials appreciated to the family.
