John Peter Braun, 81

John Peter Braun, 81, of West Bend died on Saturday, May 25, 2013. He was born Oct. 8, 1931, in Fond du Lac, the only child of Martin and Gertrude (nee Meade) Braun.

John spent his early years in Eden. He graduated from St. Mary’s Springs Academy in Fond du Lac with the class of 1949. He was also a graduate of the Fond du Lac Business College.

John proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-55.

On Nov. 5, 1955, he was married to Lucille “Ceal” Kohlmann at Holy Cross Church in Mt. Calvary. John then attended Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. John and Ceal moved to West Bend when he became employed by the West Bend Company. He retired after 30 years in management positions.

John was an active member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church and was a past member of the parish council.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lucille and five children: Debra (Stan) Miske of West Bend, Claire (Scott) Kuechle of Charlotte, N.C., Kurt (Lori) of Lexington, Ky., Keith (Wendy) of West Bend and Paul (Pam) of Eau Claire. He is further survived by his grandchildren: Grace, Jennifer (Daniel), Rebecca, Sarah, Nicholas (Allyson), Joshua, Alison, Zachary, Madeline and Noah; his great - granddaughter Piper; and sisters-in-law Dorothy (Jerome) Ditter and Regina Wiese.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Gertrude Braun; his parents- in-law Felix and Clara Kohlmann and two brothers-in-law: Morris Wiese and Gordon Kohlmann.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 1025 S. Seventh Ave. in West Bend. Burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park. Visitation will take place at the Schmidt Funeral Home Wednesday morning from 9-10:30 a.m. Memorials may be made to St. Frances Cabrini Parish, the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of the donor’s choice.

John’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the caring staff of Cedar Community, Forest View, Sunrise and Hospice for the compassionate care provided for John. A special thanks to Drs. Mian and Holcomb, Aurora Health Care Center and Club 1022 Hartford, the Rev. Nathan, the Rev. Enrique and Deacon Ron, and all the neighbors and friends for their assistance and prayers.
