Alice R. Hembel, 91

Alice R. Hembel, 91, of Jackson, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Jackson Crossings Assisted Living. She was born on Aug. 5, 1921, on the family homestead in the town of Polk to the late Erwin and Louise (nee Frank) Hembel. Alice graduated from West Bend High School in 1938, Dodge County Normal School in 1940 and later received her bachelorís degree in education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Initially, Alice taught grades 1-8 in a one-room school house at Polk Dairy School in the town of Polk. Later, she taught second and third grades in Hartford and Racine, for a teaching career that spanned 38 years. Teaching was a real joy for her.

During her free time, Alice enjoyed the beauty of nature and being outdoors. She especially liked camping with her trailer while traveling throughout most of the United States. Alice also liked boating, fishing, bird watching, sports and dancing. More than anything, she cherished visiting with her friends and family.

Alice was a member of Wisconsin Retired Educatorís Association and New Hope UCC church. Survivors include one niece, Jeanne Linnemanstons of Thiensville; one nephew, Joel Hembel (Bob Egbert) of Oconomowoc; and one great-niece, Rebecca Linnemanstons of Thiensville. She was preceded in death by her brother, Carroll, in 2005; her sister-in-law, Marcella, in 2013; a nephew, Mark, in 1955; and another nephew, Jeffrey, in 2007.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, June 9 at 3 p.m. at New Hope United Church of Christ, 4360 Jackson Drive, Jackson, with the Rev. James Hill officiating. Burial will follow at a later date. Visitation will be at the church on Sunday from 2-3 p.m.

The family has requested memorials to the Alzheimerís Association or the charity of the donorís choice in lieu of flowers.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Aliceís extended family at Jackson Crossings Assisted Living. They always had a smile and a hug ready to share with her.
