G. Richard “Dick” Irving, 82, of Brookfield, went to meet his Lord on May 27, 2013. He was born in South Milwaukee and is survived by his loving, devoted and caring wife, Jane, of 59 years; loving children: Mary Jane (David) Lohr of Bothell, Wash., Nancy (Marc) Duff of New Berlin, and John (Michelle) Irving of Naperville, Ill. Also surviving are seven fond and worshipped grandchildren: Brian (Katie) and Teresa Lohr, Charlie and Carolyn Duff, and Jeremy, Ryan and Matthew Irving. He is also survived by his cousins: Jean(Albert Jr.) Clasen of Oak Creek, Jack Hughes of Milwaukee, Miriam (James) Miller of South Milwaukee, Richard (Peggy) Schottlaender of Billings, Mont., and other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Natalie Schottlaender Hughes Irving, and other relatives and friends.
Dick graduated from Maine Township High School in Des Plaines, Ill., in 1949 and from Carroll College in Waukesha in 1953. It was at Carroll where he met Jane. He also joined in the Naval Reserves and served for eight years at which time he was honorably discharged as radioman 3rd class. In 1953, Dick began his career at the Wisconsin Telephone Company (Wisconsin Bell/Ameritech) and retired after 38 years. Throughout his life he was dedicated to service. This was true as he served as chairman of the Waukesha County March of Dimes, in the Junior Chamber of Commerce, as president of the Beaver Dam Chamber of Commerce for two terms, as president of the Beaver Dam Kiwanis Club, and as a member of the West Bend Safety Commission and the Fire and Police Commission.
A memorial service will be held on June 8 at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, 76th Street and Parkview Road, Greendale. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m.-noon, with a service at noon. Private family services will be held at Prairie Home Cemetery in Waukesha.
