LaVon Harper-Feltes, 89

LaVon “Lonny” Harper-Feltes, nee Sprout, born in Milwaukee April 29, 1924, passed away on June 17, 2013. Mother to Riley Harper (Marlene), Paddy Mercier (Joe), Michael Harper (Lisa), Brian Feltes (Nancy) and Dean Feltes (Joan). Grandmother to 21, great-grandmother to eight and great-great grandmother to four. She is survived by her sister Diane and her husband Kasey Kajune. Her husband, Raymond, preceded her in death in 1980.

Lonny was honored in 2008 as one of five Most Admired Senior Citizens in Washington County. She was active in fundraising for Senior Citizens having organized and directed the annual Déjà vu Fashion show, Western Days and served on the Advisory Board and Board of Directors at the West Bend Senior Center. She was a founding member and past president of the Red Hat Chapter of West Bend. Lonny was a creator, cofounder and “Mother of Ceremonies” for the Silly Sisters performing group that brought entertainment and laughter to hospital and nursing home residents with more than 80 performances during the last four years. Lonny founded Bright Star and designed cane covers and other fashion accessories. She was a past member of the Mesa, Ariz. Chamber of Commerce, American Business Women’s Association, Sweet Adeline’s and Queen Mother of the Apache Junction Red Hats.

Lonny is remembered by all for her creativity, generosity, caring and easy laughter. She loved playing cards and mah-jongg with her friends; and facilitating games for groups to play. She faced life with a simple philosophy: “Bloom where you are planted.”

A funeral service in remembrance of Lonny will be held on Friday, June 21 at noon at St. Andrew Ev. Lutheran Church, 7750 N. Highway 144, town of Farmington. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A celebration of Lonny’s life will also be held on Friday from 2-5 p.m. at the VFW Post, 260 Sand Drive, West Bend.

A private burial will be held at a later date in Stevens Point.
