Don was born on March 16, 1931, in Ames, Iowa, the son of Theodore and Verna (nee Oldenberg) Stielow. The family later moved to Des Moines, Iowa. Don attended Henry Wallace Grade School and Amos Hiatt Junior High. He was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church and graduated from Des Moines East High School in 1949. He then completed two years at Grandview College before transferring to Iowa State College where he graduated on June 11, 1954, with a degree in electrical engineering.

He enlisted in the Army in April 1955 and was stationed at Fort Lewis in Washington state where he worked as a radio repairman, specialist 3rd class.

While on a weekend trip to Milwaukee in 1955, he met Musa Nuernberger and they were married June 9, 1956 in Whitefish Bay. Mr. and Mrs. Don Stielow returned to Tacoma, Wash., where they lived until April 1957, when they returned to Milwaukee. Their marriage was blessed with one daughter and two sons. Following his honorable discharge from military duty, Don worked for 35 years at Square D Co., until his retirement in 1988. Don, Musa and family moved to Grafton in 1964 and joined St. Paul Lutheran Church. Don was an active member of the congregation, serving on various boards and commissions over the past 41 years. He was a talented cabinet maker, photographer and enjoyed traveling. Most of all, Don treasured the company of family, fellow parishioners and friends.

Don was the beloved husband of Musa for 56 years; devoted loving father of Susan (Randall) Metzger, Steven (Brenda) Stielow and Mark (Julie) Stielow. He was the proud and cherished grandfather of Ryan and Michael Grabczyk, David Stielow and Kaitlyn Stielow; step-grandfather of R. Chance Carter; and dear brother of Marilyn Knop and Ken (Donna) Stielow. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers, Dean and Gary.

The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Aurora Medical Center in Grafton, especially Dr. Scott Maul and the staff of the cancer care center, as well as Dr. P. Hari and the staff of the bone marrow transplant unit at Froedtert Hospital.

Don was the most kind and gentle person and will be missed by everyone whose lives he touched during the past 82 years.
