Richard “Dick” D. Lewandoske, passed away at Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk on Thursday, July 18, 2013. He was born on June 15, 1944, in Sheboygan to Donald and Bernice (nee Gephart) Lewandoske. In 1959, he moved to West Bend with his dad, his step-mother, Karen Langlois Schellinger, and her son, Dennis. He attended West Bend High School graduating in 1963. He participated in track, swimming, diving and wrestling.
After graduation, Dick began working at Kiekhafer Mercury in Cedarburg. He later transferred to Fond du Lac where the company became known as Mercury Marine. He worked at various jobs within Plant 15 and retired in May of 2008 with almost 45 years of service. He was proud to be a Merc employee and proud of the product he helped produce.
On July 10, 1965, he married the former Kathryn “Kathy” Bumiller. They resided in West Bend where they raised their two sons and a daughter. Dick became very active in Boy Scout Troop 791 when his boys were scouts. He was Weeblo leader and later assistant scout master. He later served on the Eagle Board of Review.
His longtime passion was hunting and the outdoors. He was a longtime member of the West Bend Barton Sportsman Club. He shot trap, sporting clays and participated on a pistol league. He taught Hunter’s Safety for over 30 years and enjoyed providing the kids with safety measures they could use for a lifetime. He also taught a Women’s Outdoors Class and held the office of president for a number of years. He was on the Board of Directors at the time of his death.
He loved dogs, growing cactus, flowers and working in his yard. He was always available to help out the neighbors, if they needed a hand. He made many friends just walking his dog Missy around the subdivision.
Going to their trailer at Pioneer Park near Lake Delton was also a favorite of his. He and his family enjoyed the Wisconsin Dells, which was nearby. He was a member of the following: West Bend Barton Sportsman Club, the National Rifle Association, North American Hunting Club, National Sporting Clay Association, Mercury Marine 25-Year Club, and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; son, Mark (Daniel Ehlers) of Hemet, Calif.; daughter, Mindy (Jeff) Steinert of West Bend; mother, Bernice Leonard; and siblings, Jim (Mary) Lewandoske, Tom (Louise) Lewandoske, David (Jean) Reinert all of Sheboygan, Susan (Peter) Reinert DeGraff of Waldo, Nancy (Keith) Broetzmann of Adell, Dennis (Roberta) Schellinger of Milwaukee, and Kevin (Jen) Lewandoske of North Prairie. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, and his dog, Missy, and her sister Annie.
He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew; father, Don, and his wife, Karen; step-fathers, Carlin Reinert and Roy Leonard; and in-laws, Oscar and Bernice (nee Smith) Bumiller.
The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2013, at 4 p.m. at Phillip Funeral Home (1420 W. Paradise Drive, West Bend). The visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday, July 21 from 2 p.m. until the time of service at 4 p.m. Interment will take place on Monday, July 22, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery in West Bend.
