William J Herziger, 96

William J. Herziger, a lifelong resident of Cedarburg, passed away on July 21, 2013, at the age of 96. Mr. Herziger was bornonMay16,1917 to Frank and Catherine (nee Epple) Herziger. He attended Cedarburg High School and Marquette University, graduating with a degree in electrical engineering in 1940. Upon graduation, he was employed at Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Co., where he made significant contributions to the Manhattan Project with his invention of an electric motor control system. In later years he founded the electrical consulting firm of Herziger and Associates. Mr. Herziger also served on the Cedarburg Light and Water Commission for 35 years, 15 years as its president.

Mr. Herziger was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Marjorie (nee Tump) Herziger and his sister, Laura Hilgen. He is survived by his daughter Nancy and her husband Tom Hietter of Bull Valley, Ill., and his daughter Mary and her husband Tom Merkley of Fort Worth, Texas, as well as four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013 at St Francis Borgia Catholic Church-South, N44 W6055 Hamilton Road, Cedarburg, WI 53012. Interment Zur Ruhe Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in Williamís name.
